Updated information on the 2020 Mobile Market Summit (Released 3/13/20)

As local and federal responses to COVID-19 continue to restrict travel and large gatherings throughout the country, along with concern for the safety and health of our participants, speakers, and wider communities, the Mobile Market Summit Leadership Committee has decided to move the 2020 Mobile Market Summit to a fully web-based format. This will include a live-streamed, virtual presentation of an abridged form of our original 2-day agenda to be held March 24th, 2020 from 11:00am ET to 5:00pm ET. Those sessions not presented on March 24th will be postponed and presented as webinars in the coming months; these will be disseminated to all conference registrants as a component of the original summit.

This decision has been a difficult one, and we appreciate the feedback and patience we have received from our participants, speakers, vendors, University partners, and planning subcommittees as we have navigated this uncertain time. We gathered as much information as possible regarding logistics, government responses, and individual and organizational concerns over travel prior to making our decision. We ultimately decided holding the summit in-person could pose a potential threat to our mobile market community and public health in general.

The Mobile Market Summit Leadership Committee and corresponding planning subcommittees are now shifting our priorities to moving as much of the summit’s programming to a web-based format. The agenda is currently being finalized based on presenter availability, and will be disseminated next week along with all information necessary to tune in to the event. If you were scheduled to present at the summit, you will be hearing from the programming subcommittee by midweek next week regarding your session. We appreciate your patience as we work through these details. Some components of our programming will not easily translate to an online meeting; therefore, our networking and poster sessions will be cancelled, as well as some sessions (contingent on presenter availability). For those individuals who have submitted or are in the process of submitting posters, we will hold all received submissions for next year’s event and encourage those that have yet to submit to save any work they have completed thus far for submission next year.

All individuals currently registered for in-person attendance will be shifted to web-based registration at $35, and refunds of the difference between your original payment and the web-based rate will be issued through the University at Buffalo Events office. Please allow us time to complete this process, as the University at large is currently undergoing rapid changes to class formats and events in the wake of the Governor Cuomo’s decision to move all SUNY and CUNY coursework to online formats. Updates on refunds will be sent out next week, but the process has been started internally at this point.

We appreciate your patience as we plan for this transition, and hope to maintain as much of the vitality and momentum of the in-person event as possible in our online sessions.
