Grants and Fundraising

Finding the right mix of funding sources for your mobile market that can ensure
sustainability and give you time to grow and scale
Mobile markets use a variety of funding strategies to launch and sustain their work, often based on the type of organization and available resources.
Picture

While some mobile markets aim to run their operations with little to no grant or donation revenue and rely solely on sales, most

markets recognize the need for a healthy balance of ongoing fundraising support to complement sales revenue.

Here are some of the primary sources mobile market utilize to sustain their work:

• Federal and regional grants
• Sales revenue
• Corporate sponsorship
• Individual donations and philanthropy
• Local sources such as municipal funding and     foundations
• Fee-for-service programs

While markets often use funds raised to cover operational costs like staffing, fuel, and disposables, many grants may only fund specific programs or line items. Examples might include the following:

•
Incentives like SNAP matching, vouchers for seniors, etc.
• Capital investments such as vehicle, cold storage, and other equipment
• Produce Prescription programs
